The Great Feral Cat Hunt
One of my daily jobs is to track and find feral cats. We live next to a wild area with a creek running through it. A colony of feral cats has grown to almost 30 this year. My job is to trudge through foxtails and rapid water to find these creatures. |

Here we are at one of the three known feeding stations. Some of the neighbors aren't too happy that some people feed the cats. It just creates more cats. One solution is to trap the feral, spay/neuter it, and return it to the place it was trapped. This keeps the colony from growing. |

Actually, there are two: a mother and her kitten. The mom looks just like my sister Kanga. My mom traps feral cats in the fall and gets them spayed and neutered. Life is very hard for a feral cat. Most kittens die from predators, and the life span of a feral is less than 3 years. Call your SPCA branch. Like here, they may have a Feral Fix program that fixes them for free. All it takes is some of your time. Thanks to my Aunt Charlotte for leading the fight to fix feral cats! |
